Nestled in the foothills of Camelback Mountain in picturesque Paradise Valley, Arizona is the home of BJ and Donna Jensen and their farm, Sun Country Arabians. A full training facility on two acres, BJ, a healthcare executive, and Donna, a realtor, manage and care for their horses themselves.
A passionate horse lover since a small child, Donna purchased her first Arabian in 1980, a yearling filly, Wind Sonnet by *Algorab. "Windy", trained by Carolyn McDonald went on to win multiple championships in western pleasure open and amateur. Windy produced two fillies, Baskaffair (x Ben Bask) in 1986 and Baskamour (x Bask Crown) in 1987. Baskaffair was sold to Ray and Susan Murphy of Guilford, CT and Baskamour, trained by Joanne Fox, went on to win multiple championships in Country English Pleasure with Joanne and Donna, including Region 2 Champion and Scottsdale Top Ten. In 2003, Baskamour produced an almost mirror image of herself through her filly, Eternalee (x Eternety). Baskamour is now retired and living at their farm.
When BJ and Donna met in 1984, their mutual passion for Arabians led to BJ's purchase of the straight Russian yearling filly, Comtessa (Numizmat x Snejana by Aswan) purchased from Raymond Mazzei.
In 1999, the Jensens purchased the 8-day old, exquisite filly, My Dreamgirl (Magic Dream x Fames Flower by Fame VF), from Bruce Edwards of Stanwood, WA. "Dream" trained by Carolyn McDonald and Bill Porcher, went on to win multiple championships in western pleasure open and amateur including the 2002 Southern California Western Pleasure Snaffle Bit Futurity and Scottsdale Top Ten Western Pleasure 40+ as a junior horse.
In 2002, the Jensens decided to expand their focus to selective breeding with the purchase of one of the youngest Bey Shah daughters, WH Lady Love, from Wendell Hansen. Before Lady was resold in 2004 to Glen Hibbs of Scottsdale, she produced for the Jensens a filly in 2002, My Eternal Love (x Eternety) and a colt in 2004, Dreamgiver (x Magic Dream) -- both beautiful bodied horses with tremendous athletic ability and charisma.
In 2004, the elegant filly, HF Ariana (HF Mister Chips+ x HF Tserenas Song by Barbary) was acquired at two weeks of age from Joe and Sandi Hardesty, breeder of Mister Chips+, 2004 Canadian National Champion Park Horse. At three years of age, Ariana shows tremendous athletic ability and breeding potential.
In 2005, the Jensens decided to retire My Dreamgirl from showing and bred her to the 2005 U.S. Reserve National Champion Stallion, *Gazal Al Shaqab, sire of Marwan. That decision produced the exquisite 2006 colt, Ghazzan. On March 4, 2007 she produced a beautiful *El Nabila B filly (see photos under "What's New").
The goal of the Jensens and Sun Country Arabians is to remain small and hands on, breeding selectively one to two halter quality foals a year with exceptional athletic ability.
